you could do it the night of halloween and have a cake walk, get local businesses to donate prizes for a huge bingo game, have a haunted house, a hay ride, have people come tell scary stories, and charge people to rent booths to sell things they make or do face painting or have games, and charge like $5 admission for adults and $3 for kids and charge a small fee for the bingo games see food and charge to play the games. advertise it in the newspaper, local radio stations, and the high schools around the area, and of couse flyers in local business. make sure to list everything that will be there the date time and place how much admission is say its kid freindly and the cause. get some one to cater have a costume contest. this idea has endless possiblities and can rake in a nice sum of money. it could go all day if you want it to and have thinks like a silent auction in the morning and have the other stuff in the afternoon because hay rides and scary stories are no fun during the day.

I do agree that they have done a good job keeping her high profile. But their actions demonstrate that this isn't really about Madeleine anymore. I mean look at his blog? How many times does he mention Madeleine? He seems to talk about everything, from the continental breakfast he's had on his way to see the pope, to his new clothes and the weather, yet, if you look for a description of Madeleine all you get is a lousy paragraph saying how old she is. I mean, is that all they can say about their 4 year old missing daughter?!
I'd say its their arrogance more than anything that makes the public criticise them, they act as if what they did was perfectly normal.
They also don't seem to be doing much looking either. I mean its all fine and well to put her picture up everywhere you can think of but are they actually looking? There was a considerable number os sightings in Malta, did they bother going? No. Why not? They had the private jet. They've got the money. It couldn't hurt could it?

I would never be in their position, because I wouldn't leave my children on their own in the first place.
If however, I were the McCanns (thank goodness im not), then I would definately want to spread awareness, but not by creating a fancy website, more by being hands on, scouring the country looking for her. I dont actually think that although raising some awareness, producing wristbands and t-shirts is actually physically helping to find Madeleine. Surely there cant be many people left in the world who do not know who Madeleine is or what she looks like. If (and I do hope so) Madeleine is still alive, then she has probably had her appearance changed anyway, so pictures, posters etc. may not even be of any use.
Im sure everyone has their own way of dealing with grief, but I dont think I would have handles it the way they have. But what do I know, I have never been in that situation and would like to think / hope that I never will be.
I just hope that Madeleine is found safe and well and that whoever is responsible for this is brought to justice.

Okay, with 3 girls of my own, yes i would raise as much awareness as possible but a fund, i don't think so. We work and have a secured bank account for emergencies set up.
Now, the website itself isn't bad it's just Gerry talks alot about himself.
Now, i would be scouring the earth with my bare hands. I would be using my dogs to track my kids as they are trained. Nothing wuold hold me back from finding my little girl. I'd be knocking on doors, forcing people to check surveilance, i'd be on the police so bad they'd get sick of me!
I haven't seen the MaCanns do this.
I think this is what people get frustrated over.
When my 4y/o nephew ran away from my BIL in the store, my BIL went ballistic, he refused people to leave the store and was tipping over clothes racks and had a manhunt scouring isles for his son, they found him at the candy center but this is the kind of response people look for, the eratic, "where's my baby" response and the MaCanns showed no such thing.
Hence, why this whole thing has been blown up the way it has.
Gerry sits there talking about eating Apple Cake with retirees and working his bisepts and says maybe 2 lines about Maddie, it does suprise me at how casual he's being, talking on the phone, sitting at the computer, It just doesn't seem the norm for someone who has lost their pride possesion.

" It is all a smokescreen to deflect interest away from what really happened on May 3rd. It is a well known and much used tactic."
People do not visit the Pope, appear on numerous TV programmes including an American news programme, set up a fund to find their child and remain at the scene of the crime for over 3 months unless they have no choice. They had a choice. It is not a much used tactic. They would have returned home after a reasonable period of time and when asked simply say we are awaiting news, there is not much else we can do.
EDIT - Thumbs down, boo hoo, some people on here are clearly divorced from reality, or hate the McCanns so much they can't accept any point of view but their own. There has been no similar campaign like this that is why the antis are complaining so much.

Absolutely. it is without doubt the most effective thing you could do, it increases the number of people who are on the lookout, it keeps pressure on the authorities, how much could I hope to accomplish as an individual? All they are trying to do is multiply the avenues and options. I also sincerely hope that my mind is strong enough so that I could maintain my resolve to keep going. Wailing and screeching serves zero purpose and is in fact counter productive as it takes the time, focus and attention of others away from the real problem. Loosing control merely indicates a mind that is not as developed and seeks attention. I would hope I have the strength of character to keep my emotions in control so that all efforts could focus on the whereabouts of my missing child. People who find the McCanns resolve offencive, an indication of wrong doing or lack of concern have little incite or understanding of the human mind and its working , they assume that because they would wail, loose control and demand attention it is because they care more, how little do they understand the human Psyche?

The McCanns have done an excellent job in keeping their names in the news and keeping Maddies profile up...but what I don't get is how they are attemting to compare their situation with others who have had children gone missing, or even that with the situation of Ken Bigley.
The only tiny ounce of respect I will give them is that they managed to make this such a high profile.
What I don't like about this fund is that a/ they are two doctors, surely they have a fair amount of money and b/ parents who's children go missing and it's not their fault don't get any donations...but the McCanns who have been raking it in complain about the size of their private jet!!!
To answer your question...yes, I would do anything to keep my daughters name in the media(including what they are doing now with the youtube site etc.), however, this includes accepting the "smear" campaign...it's more media attention that although might be hurtfull, it would keep publicity on my child!

Perhaps, but I may be too traumatised to organise such a fantastic effort as the brave McCanns have done for Madeline. The little girl would be proud of her parents who have put up such a sophisticated fight for her return.
