Why are penguins bottle-shaped??

It is their adaptation. They don't fly like most birds but swim. To swim, their body must need a bottle like (or aeroplane like) structure. The shape along with the blubber to keep it warm allows the penguins to swim without sinking.

Penguins have the most efficient swimming shape. Most penguins do not live in cold climates and the Galapagos penguin is found on the equator.

Hydrodynamics i guess. Plus they're portliness is probably due to heat conservation and blubber storage for the long winters.
