short answer, yes.
for example, if you're already working as a solicitor and study masters in legal studies, that is tax deductable. however, if you're working in a real estate agent but just doing normal office work and not involving selling properties, then went and did a course to gain a real estate agents license, that is not tax deductable. study deductions are only allowed if it's gonna bring you further into that field or to gain higher position in that field, but cannot be to GET you into that field.

No, not in the US. To qualify for the home office deduction, you must have a space devoted exclusively to your job.
