A new Gallup Poll finds Congress' approval rating the lowest it has been since Gallup first tracked public opinion of Congress with this measure in 1974. Just 18% of Americans approve of the job Congress is doing, while 76% disapprove, according to the August 13-16, 2007, Gallup Poll.
That 18% job approval rating matches the low recorded in March 1992, when a check-bouncing scandal was one of several scandals besetting Congress, leading many states to pass term limits measures for U.S. representatives (which the Supreme Court later declared unconstitutional). Congress had a similarly low 19% approval rating during the energy crisis in the summer of 1979.

I think the low approval ratings of Congress and the President just show that the public is dissatisfied with Washington all together. A lot of Republicans like to say, well Bush must be more popular because Congress has a lower rating. I don't think that's accurate. Here's something to keep in perspective. After 9/11, President Bush's approval rating shot up to 95%. Congress peaked at 59%. People never like the idea of Washington politicians, which is just the image that "Congress" creates in peoples' minds, whether times are good or bad, people are in general cynical about the idea of Washington politicians. Its a lot easier to believe in an individual than the concept of a group of politicians, so that's why the Presidents' approval rating is usually higher, whoever it is.

The approval rating is 3 points less than what it was when it was controlled by the Republicans.
Take a look at 2006. Congress never had a period with an approval rating above 29%. Six times below 25%.
Since 2002. A steady decline.
But the biggest problem with this poll?
In addition to sampling error, question wording and practical difficulties in conducting surveys can introduce error or bias into the findings of public opinion polls.
So I don't put too much faith in them.
With the fact that almost anything the Democrats can pass can be vetoed and since we do not have enough in power to override that veto, what exactly would you like them to do?

Wow... what a smart answer the first one is... The "no responsibility" mentality is alive and well among the libs. Lets magically pretend it would be so much lower with the republicans in control still... Let's see, I think everything we are dealing with were still issues for the four years the republicans held congress... yet the approval rating didn't get that low for the whole four years. Dems in office and it drops immediately. hmmmm... I guess it goes to show the people weren't really looking for a change to dems... they were sending the message to clean house on the Republican side.
Those are my thoughts.

Many citizens had a hope of just investigating the situation overseas and some popular accusations. When on the very first day the almost first thing she blurted out was '__peach---- is off the table' it was plain to see right off all the 'reforms' alluded to would be brushed 'under the table'.

Democrat's lied in 2006. Simple as that. They made a lot of promises and have kept only 1 or 2.
My prediction: A single term Democrat majority.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Don't tell them. I'm gonna take a move from the Democrat playbook and hope the congress is unwinnable so the Republicans can get a majority back.

What do you expect with 2 mental midgets like Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi leading? Neither one of them possess the necessary leadership skills to lead a pack of starving wolves to a fresh carcass; so how do you expect them to lead this nation?
