After the Civil War the U.S. sued Great Britain for damages that were caused by them building ships for the Confederacy. We originally asked for $1 billion but settled on $25 Million.
Is this true? And where can i find more information on this lawsuit?

It is true, the British built ships for the Confederacy and after the war the U.S. made a claim against Britian (for the damages done by CSS Alabama, a commerce raider), a tribunal eventually awared the US over 15 million dollars (originally 2 billion was claimed) as a part of an 1871 treaty.

Yes, it's true. The most famous lawsuit was known as THE ALABAMA CLAIMS (named not for the state but for the warship "The Alabama", built by the British and used to sink the Kearsarge and lesser Union ships.

Jonathan has it wrong...Kearsarge sank Alabama, not the other way around.........and if it says that at the WIKI link he gave, then there's another example of why WIKI can be dumb to use......
