Well I'm a Christian, so I'll use what God has to say about this issue. He says "Whatsoever is good, whatsoever is lovely, whatsoever is of a good report, think on these things!"...So God evidently knows it is important for our well being to not dwell on mistakes of the past, or hurts, etc....but to look and think on the good and positive things...."the power of positive thinking" is a Biblical principle to live by".
So yes....it is not good for you...think about it...do you feel good afterwards...no you don't...which should tell you the answer. How we approach life affects everything...even your health!

It's okay to write it down to purge the event from your system. It's okay to read it very rarely on occasion for further healing purposes, but to continually focus on your problems and do re-read past hurtful events in your life will throw you into clinical depression. Part of depression is constantly focusing on the past.
While you may have seen the commercials that state that depression is a chemical imbalance, no one is quite sure which comes first the depressed behaviors and thoughts or the imbalance. Right now, you are engaging in depressive behaviors and if you're not careful you'll become not just sad, but misery itself.
Don't keep reading those journals. If you can't stop reading them and can't bring yourself to burn these notebooks or throw them out, seek help with a psychologist. You may want to explore your motives behind this compulsion to relive hurt. It is not healthy.

Keeping a journal is good you need to have something to vent in that doesnt involve other people knowing to much about you that you dont want released .
Re-reading your journal if it hurts is not a good idea it should only be re-read if something that happened that has happened before you need a reference from it other then that put it away , its a place for you to vent and let go not remenisce.

Seems movies are written from journals, and writers are developed.
You need to find God for healing of hurts. Read the 1st Letter of John in the back of the Bible, only 5 chapters, study everyday for 30 days.
Find purpose in every verse. Verse 2 is key to entire Bible.
2nd, after / during above readings, PRAY and thank God for every hurt by every person in your life, ALL of them. Then Forgive every person who has hurt you. Even the perception that God has hurt you. Then, Healing will be in your journal.

the past is the past, focus on a future not whats been. the journal is a constant reminder of the hurts u received, and will make u feel sad and hurt. at some point the past has to be forgiven, u don't have to forget it but to dwell on it will only emotionally hurt u. create a new life, focus on the now and the future not the past, as we can't undo the past but we can control what happens to us now.

It's not a good idea. You went through something negative or hurtful and got through it. Why would you want to keep going over them again and again? You need to write down good experiences for when things are going so well so you can sit down and remember some good times.

I keep one myself and I don't know if it is good for me or not, but sometimes I need to get things out of my head and on paper so I think it helps. Maybe if you don't go back and read it very often it will help. Just a suggestion.
