It's most prevelant when they use in pastence. Instead of "Asked" it comes out sounding like "Axed" or in extreme cases they'll even add another d to the end of it making it sound like this "Axeded". I Axeded you a question. Can someone please explain to me how this simple word is aparently so tough for people to say. Is it an issue of talking so fast that they get tongue tied or what? I'd really like to know how this has come to be such a problem.

And as for the first two numskulls who are blowing off this question and calling me pathetic for worrying about it, let me say this. I think it is an issue because those who talk like that sound like uneducated idiots and if you two are guilty of doing this then I'm glad I touched off a nerve. You should be ashamed of yourselves for not caring what you sound like when you speak. More books, less Ludarics, Jay Z and 50 Cent. You'd be amazed how much more intelligent you'll become.

the first post was hilarious. so was the second. it is a rather trivial question and one u shouldn't seem to be so worked up about. But to answer it...

It is simply easier to pronounce "axed" then it is to pronounce asked. It's a matter of laziness. So many words in the English language have been altered because people want to say them as quickly and easily as possible. Think about it: People say "Nah mean", which means "Do you know what I mean?" How did that happen?

Come on- you can't come to the answer yourself?

Different cultural groups, and people from different places have different dialects and accents. As for axed, it is likely part of an accent that signals a shared social identity.

I used to live with a bunch of guys from Georgia - I'm from New Zealand. Why can't those guys say "You all?"

Who says it's a problem? English is pronounced in a great deal of different ways -- none of them are a problem. EXCEPT for the australians. Their accent is crude, and should be wiped from the earth.

I mean, come on y'all!

Just because someone can thumb through the dictionary and pronounce a certain word doesn't make them all that intelligent.I've heard both races say axed, but labeling someone is more annoying than the pronunciation of a word.

You're a day late and a dollar short. This question was "asked" ad nauseaum.

"It's most prevelant when they use in pastence."

"It's most prevelant when they use in past tense."

It's past tense nimrod! "Numskulls?" Dude please stop! You're making a total spectacle of yourself. It's "numb skulls." Just do yourself a favor and give it a rest already.

As long as you understand what they say, does it really matter how they say it? Like you said it makes them sound unintelligent...not you. Why do you care?? You obviously have way TOO much time on your hands!!!

It's called -dialect-. I bet there are words -you- mispronounce, like 'comfortable' and 'sherbet'. Just because you always heard them spoken that way.
