Do you believe you know the best way to live life? Don't you want others to live the best life they can, too? Then why _wouldn't_ you try to convert them to your beliefs? After all, it's for their own good, and everyone will be better off as a result...right?

It's kind of like the libertarian's quandary. Libertarians strongly believe in "live and let live," but how do you spread a belief system whose main tenant is to not go around forcing your will on others?

Even when people can agree on things like "kindness, compassion and love," which is rare, they still can't agree on how to attain those ends. For example some believe that compassion is something you should do freely and for its own sake, while others see it as a means of getting into heaven, while still others believe government should "force" people to be compassionate by taxing them for welfare or requiring high school students to do "volunteer" work. Some believe compassion should be taught by parents, others think it should be taught from the pulpit, still others think it's government's or the public schools' responsibility, and still others think it shouldn't be "taught" at all.

The bottom line to all this is that there will always be conflict in the world so long as we remain unique individuals with differing beliefs. We all want to live a good life, we just can't agree what that good life is or how to attain it. The best we can do is to simply do no harm to others: physically, economically (or financially), or by restricting their freedoms to likewise live as they please.

In short, we all just need to become libertarians. :-) Now how do I go about accomplishing that....?
