Speech pathology is the major you want. Linguistics would, certainly, give you all you need to break down speech but speech pathology is directed toward speech therapy. linguistics will have you studying a lot more than you need and not offer as much in terms of application to your chosen field.

My aunt is a speech therapist. She went to graduate school. A counselor at college could probably tell you.

My DAD majored in linguistics!!! And funny enough he just needed something to where he could graduate the fastest, based on the classes he took. And he's not a speech therapist. He was into real estate and now teaches.

Hmm, but linguistics was really interesting for him and he can convince anyone he's from any part of the country based on his lingual skills.

A friend back in University switched her major to Linguistics and I met several more people in the Field through her. None of them that I know of became speech therapists, but yes it is. They did talk about that profession and problems in speech a lot.

She introduced me to my x, who went on to get a masters of Linguistics. She was working part time with a prof in therapy stuff.
