STEAMER: A steamer can be used to remove wallpaper off nearly every surface and in nearly every circumstance and that includes paneling. Some people are uncomfortable using a steamer but if the directions are read and followed it presents few difficulties. Steamer can be either propane-powered or electric-powered. Both can be used to do the job on paneling. Propane generally is quicker. Begin at the bottom edge of the wallpaper and work downward to the bottom corner. Water and Dish Washing Soap If you would prefer not to deal with a wallpaper steamer, try a mixture of one-half water and one-half dishwashing soap, like Dawn. Mix the soap into very warm water and apply with a sponge and allow to soak for 15 minutes. Only apply the mixture to a part of the wallpaper large enough that you can peel the paper off before it begins to dry. Use a plastic scraper and gently scrape the paper. It really doesn't matter much whether you scrape upward or downward as long as you remain consistent throughout the scraping process. Scoring The process of scraping may not work well whatever process is used to moisten the wallpaper. If this is the case, the problem is probably that the moisture is not penetrating beneath the paper. The way to fix this problem is by using a paper scoring tool that is available at any hardware store or home improvement warehouse. This tool works on the same principle as a pizza cutter except that it has spikes on the edge that will make tiny little holes as you work it across the wallpaper. Moisten with water or a mixture of half-water and half-fabric softener and allow to soak for 15 minutes before taking the plastic scraper to the paper.

I believe that shaving cream will work. Otherwise try Mr Clean Magic Eraser or Murphy's oil.

Rubbing alcohol since alcohol is the solvent for marker ink. Also, take the markers away from the kids.
