but then when i clicked on My Computer and double clicked on the drive it said drive E is not accesible... it didnt come with any other software on nero 7 essentials but my pc wont read CD-ROMs. and i dont know how to install this NERO software.

Firstly a DVD rom if installed on a Windows machine does not require any software or drivers seperately it should be detected by default...Nero is a software mostly used to burn\copy\make cds or DVD's and in your case...try this
Right click on my computer----properties--hardware---devicemanager----now look for the DVD rom and if it has an yellow exclamation(!) or a red "X"mark means the drivers need to be installed seperately or the device is disabled...disconnect the drive and reconnect it to the CD rom port thats already on the computer if it works then probably the connection port for the DVD on the computer itself has gone bad hoeever there cpu;d also be issues with the bus cable(cable used to connect the dvd rom to the computers mother Board...Last;y try the drive on a different computer to rule out the possibility of the drive itself being faulty

try placing a cd into the drive then go to file manager and click on the dvd drive to see if there is any files showing if there is then it is working

go online, enter the company name, go to tech support, find your external dvd- writer, and download and updated driver
