If you liked Maburaho, a similar magic-use slant exists in Negima and Magic Users Club. Negima is the more recent of the two.

If it's the girls, consider Love Hina, the classic of the "harem anime" genre (of which Maburaho is also an example, and I think Hand Maid May is as well).

If you liked the robot angle of Hand Maid May, you might consider Mahoromatic or Saber Marionette J. (The later is also "harem anime," while Mahoromatic is more plain romantic comedy.)

I have not watched Maburaho, but I also really liked Elfen Lied. My favorite anime is Death Note though. It doesn't have much action really, but I love the story, and there are a few girls in it, but no nudity or sex. The look isn't as crisp as Elfen Lied, but it's not too bad. Like I said, it's not action filled, so the look isn't really so important. Here's the plot description from Wikipedia:

"Light Yagami is an extremely intelligent, but bored, young man who resents the crime and corruption in the world. His life undergoes a drastic change when he discovers a mysterious notebook, known as the "Death Note", lying on the ground in the year 2003. The Death Note's instructions claim that if a human's name is written within it that person shall die. Light is initially skeptical of the Death Note's authenticity, believing it is just a prank. However, after experimenting with it and killing two criminals, Light is forced to admit that the Death Note is real. After meeting with the previous owner of the Death Note, a Shinigami named Ryuk, Light seeks to become "the God of the new world" by passing his judgment on criminals.

Soon, the number of inexplicable deaths of reported criminals catches the attention of the International Police Organization and a mysterious detective known only as "L". L quickly learns that the serial killer, dubbed by the public as "Kira" (derived from the Japanese pronunciation of the English word "Killer"), is located in Japan. L also concludes that Kira can kill people without laying a finger on them. Light realizes that L will be his greatest nemesis, and a game of psychological cat and mouse between the two begins."

One Piece!
Pirates set out on a journey to find the famous treasure One Piece. A 17 year old boy named Luffy wants to become the next King of the Pirates after Gold Roger. He eventually makes a crew and they set out on their journey to make thier dreams come true.
This show is so funny and full of action. What I love about it is that Luffy acts like an idiot but can get real serious when he needs to.I hope that this show doesn't end Ever. It is way too awesome. It is one of my favorite shows. Can get emotional sometimes but not all the time. I love Luffy and his brother ace. I have many questions about everyone like: Who is Luffy's father?(though i think I know already from other websites).I want to know if they will ever see Shanks again or any of the other villians and friends they have encounterd. This show leads you to many questions, usually answering them.I can't wait to see all the episodes and find the answers to my questions. This is a truly hilarious show and everyone should watch it.

the other one is death note!
it's about a man who can kill anyone just by writing their name in a note called "death note"

the Neon Genesis Evangelion series (the films abit confusing!), Ninja Scroll, Ghost In The Shell, Vampire Hunter D, Ah! My Goddess (although its very corny!) Tenchi Muyo, Fist Of The North Star.....
i think Princess Mononoke is a fantastic film. If you havent seen that, i highly recommend it, although it is slow at times.
