It might also end at forty! You never know... Look both ways before crossing the street and all that.
Being 41, I reluctantly recognize that I am somewhat more decrepid than I was at 31. Also, I am married, which has made me very lucky (I hasten to add) but not so free as I once was. I used to have all these fantasies about changing the world and stuff. I guess I still have a shot, but now I mostly fantasize about getting my retirement money sorted out. (Awhile off, I know, but I can hear the clock ticking.)
Am I sorry to be 41? Maybe a bit, but it beats the hell out of the alternative!

Life begins at your very first heart beat. In my perspective, I believe you are referring to "living". Colossal difference. I don't think 40 is necessarily relevant in either situation. To be only beginning to live when your life is half done? Wasteful. To define an entire species so constrictly as to all "change" at one age... assuming. Forgive me, I do not mean to be offensive. Blunt- perhaps. It is not so much that I call you assuming, or even that your question in not intriguing. Merely allowing my cynicisms a night of enjoyment...

I think the life you wish you could have had in your 20's begins at 40....but it takes all those years to get that wise, and self accepting, and self sufficient, and let go and stop caring what others think and start really living your life for you....unfortuatlly....it takes that long to get there (give or take a few...)
