I would rather know there is no god/afterlife. It would make people make the most of their lives on earth.

I'm an atheist, but if a god were to actually prove his existence and the existence of a heaven/hell afterlife to me, I doubt I would change how I live all that much, because I think I'm already a good person. I think the only reason I'd go to hell would be if the god(s) considered unbelief to be a sin, in which case I'm not sure I would want to go to the heaven of such a narcissistic egotist.

I believe in being good for its own sake, not because of a fear of hell or a bribe of heaven. Such punishment/reward morality is the morality of a child.

I am already pretty darn certain that there are no gods or afterlife, for reasons too lengthy to detail here. To be able to know for sure that there wasn't, would do little for me except maybe to stoke my ego a tiny little bit at having that which I was already pretty sure of, confirmed. However, my knowledge of that would do little or nothing to change anyone else's beliefs, so it really wouldn't be of much use to me, unless by knowing I would then know an additional reason or proof that I hadn't known of before.

I think it depends. If the god is fair and just, I wouldn't mind the possibility of Hell, because you wouldn't end up there if you really did lead a good life. On the other hand, if the god was cruel, I would rather not know about it, have fun living, and then maybe go to hell.

Wow, that was a tangent. Right now I believe in the first one, but I don't know if I would prefer the second one. I'm confused.

Sorry, I don't think I really answered your question. *I tried though.

I would rather know the truth that-
We are not this material body, IE; Race, color, nationality, Religion, mind, intellect, senses, job, etc. We are all eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. We never die, only this mortal body dies.
This material world( Made up of material heaven, hell and earth) is not our real home, it is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery, only one fourth of the souls come here, and the rest are enjoying blissful eternal loving relationships with our Maker named above. Those who are intelligent, take up the process of self realization (Bhakti Yoga) which gives one real peace, happiness and reality. Then at the end of life they can return to the eternal Kingdom where there is no more birth, death, old age, or disease and be eternally happy. One must understand Karma, reincarnation, and no one goes to hell eternally to understand the unlimited mercy and love of God.

I would rather believe and be wrong than to have shown loyalty to none and be proved wrong when it is too late. I would rather have my faith for one day than to survive the monotony on 1,000 days without it. But...if the God you speak of hasn't the mercy to forgive sins then how could you worship him, in the same respect: how could you not?

It suits me not to know either way... makes for variety in life oscillating between incredulity and belief!! Is it possible that God has deliberately left us in the dark in order for us to experience a spicy life?

i think i would like to know about what happens after death because then i would be able to set my priority's straight. if there is a hell or heaven i would be able to decide which one i would go to but not noing means i cant. Also if there is nothing after death then i would like to be able to come to terms with that before i die and it would probably bring more meaning to my life too.
