Youtube pretty much turns a blind eye to anything until it gets reported by the copyright holder, than they all videos down without asking any questions.
As far as anime goes, once it get's licensed by people like Geneon, those companies watch youtube and ask for their shows to be removed.
Other copyrighted materials have been removed though (music videos, movies, tv shows, etc). They just aren't until they are asked to be removed.

Anime isn't the only genre of entertainment that YouTube has cracked down on.
At the same time, however, Anime is searched on a high basis, and with all the hard work that's done to make an anime series, The company has a right to report "unlawful" content that's posted without permission.
If it's licensed, then either watch it on TV or buy the series...it's not that much, considering what people go through to get it. I can understand wanting to see shows that aren't in the US as of yet...
I've actually made a fan video that was taken down by YouTube because YTV had reported it for copyright infringement. All I did was sing karaoke. >_<
Sometimes even with a disclaimer, if you don't get permission, don't expect it to stay up.

Partially agree with 'unknown'. If Japan is particularly strict about its copyright laws, their protection agency will be able to get YouTube to actively remove illegally posted videos. I've been wondering about this lately too! Even when I look for certain PVs by asian artists, I sometimes find that they've been deleted. If anyone REALLY knows what's up with this (is it a payoff or something?! Honestly...) I'm dying to know too!
Sidenote:
I'm definitely an otaku when it comes to anime, and I appreciate it when I can watch some of an anime before buying it. Most fansub groups stop subbing before the series ends, or halfway through. I think that fansubs are important when it comes to promoting anime in the US; however, I also think that fans of the art need to support the art by purchasing copies of the shows or other related products (at least purchase a copy of your favorite series/movie!)
I know this wasn't much help, but hope that you find your answer soon!

I don't think they are really. I am always on Youtube. And I have seen the same messages posted everywhere. I have seen a lot of anime on Youtube, usually fan subs or anime in German. I have already seen the 3rd OVA of Hellsing. And I watched some other anime that I would buy. Such as the old Cutey Honey from the 70, Lady Oscar, Karin, Hellsing OVA, Devil May Cry.

Lots of stuff is being removed, but you may only be aware of anime. Japanese companies in particular are finally getting around to removing their property which has been illegally uploaded. I've heard that they tend to be very strict with copyright laws.

youtube is scared about copyrighted material of all types since it is getting sued by Vacom. Funimation just got a chanel on Veoh tv so you can watch most animes there.

The people who put them online did it illegaly. The company doesn't want anyone seeing it for free, so they take it off. Japan is where anime mostly is, and they have people online in Japan checking online for illegal copyrighting.

i like yamato nadeshiko shichi henge, its no longer likely romantic or woman nevertheless. it has slightly romance and that i'm fairly confident its shojo too... it is approximately those 4 adult males who're destructive and their landlady reported in the event that they rework her niece right into a "woman", like her, then they're going to get loose lease for 3 years. it is not as undemanding because it form of feels. her niece is a carefree, long-haired woman who like creepy stuff like skulls and coffins. and he or she has no objective to alter right into a "woman". the tale is going on approximately their mis-adventures and their atempt to alter her. it is carried out at 25 episodes (i think of).

beacuse people don't add teh disclaimers to the anime they add. If you just add on "disclaimer: i do not own [whatever anime or anything else you add, such as songs and pictures and such]" they pretty much leave it alone
