Not sure where you're asking from - "translated" to American English -

A "Boot" is the trunk of a car (where the luggage goes)

A "Lift" is an elevator.

Boot is a foot wear that extends from the foot upwards around the ankle and sometimes as far as the upper thigh. Boot can also mean to get rid of or to start a computer, booting up a computer. Lift means to rise or raise up, to elevate. I thought that Australians spoke English. Is that not true?

It all depends on the context. While 'boot' means a type of shoe, if talking about a putting something in the 'boot', it means the trunk of the car. While 'lift' means to raise up, it also means elevator.

Boot = what Americans call the 'trunk' of a car

Lift = elevator

I suppose you must have missed the memo, Australians do speak the English language.

Boot in Austrailia and England is the trunk of a car. Lift is to give someone a ride. As in, "Hey mate, toss the Bar B in the boot and I'll give ya a lift to town!" I'm pretty sure this is right, but I wouldn't guarantee it . peace, PT
