The only month that has 4 weeks in it is Feb, the rest have 4 weeks and 2 or 3 days. 40 weeks is the correct time for gestation and is equal to roughly 9 months. Get prego May 1st due date would be Feb 1st...277 days later...277 divided by 7 (days in a week) is 39.6...round up to 40 weeks.

40 weeks from the day of last menstrual period (LMP), that is about 2 weeks before you were really pregnant. Therefore on average, a normal pregnancy lasts 266 days (38 weeks).
If you take 38 weeks and divide by four to get 9 1/2 months, but you're calculating lunar months, which are shorter than calendar months. A lunar month lasts only 28 days, or four seven-day weeks. Most calendar months last for 30 or 31 days. That's why it sounds as if there's more time involved when we count in lunar months although it's not actually true. So a normal pregnancy lasts 38 (40 weeks from LMP), or about nine calendar months.

Because 1 month does not have exactly (4 * 7 = ) 28 days. Many months have 30 or 31. So you can't just calculate 9 * 4 = 36 which is not equal to 40. Try to calculate in days and you will see that it is very close.

Well if every month was 4 weeks, then yes it would be 10 months, but there not. Only 1 is exactly 4 weeks long, February. So 40 weeks doesn't equal 10 months by the calender.

Because it's not an exact science and its a lot easier to see progress over the course of a month than over the course of a week. Most months are not exactly 4 weeks long. Check your calendar again.

Given that the average month is 30.42 days (slightly longer than 4 weeks), the average 9 months is just slightly more than 39 weeks.
9 months is close enough.

First responder has it right. 40 wks is LMP so you weren't pregnant for the 2 wks then for 2 wks you don't usually know you are pregnant so it is 9 months after the average person finds out they are pregnant. My friends sister-in-law though didn't know she was pregnant until she was 34 wks along lol boy was that a surprise for her.

Pregnancy is 10 months.
They just count 9 because for the first 2 weeks your not pregnant then for the next 2 weeks you don't know you are pregnant.
So they say 9 because they count from when you are likely to know you are pregnant.
