I took this course a while back. It had two parts and therefore two separate classes. They started with ancient cultures and moved up to Greece and the Renaissance and so on and pretty much followed the time line of various cultures up to the late 1600's I believe. The course focused on each cultures music, art, etc. It was a fun course, lots of reading and lots to study but fun.

A freshman class like "World Humanities" is usually a cleverly disguised seminar on diversity and tolerance. You'll get a crash course on why Muslims pray toward Mecca, How the Indians got screwed out of North America; why blacks are unfairly treated by the police; why Mexicans should be legal US citizens; and why white people are to blame for it all.

humanities is the general term for studying the products that are uniquely human as opposed to natural science or mathematics which can be thought to exist in some sense independent of man's discovery of them: so, art, history, literature, music, language
I would guess that World in front of the title implies that there will be effort made to broaden your perspective, so not just Western art, but Asian art as well. I might expect some 'comparative" studies.

For the most accurate answer, look up the course description in your college catalog.
Here's an educated guess:
humanities = art, music, literature, etc.
world = meaning it will cover everything & not be limited to English or Greek or Western, even.
