No, my mother was severely alcoholic to the point of causing schizophrenia and seizures. We had no father in the home. I took care of her from the time I was 10. I am 50 now (she committed suicide in 1989) and I am very happy and well-adjusted. I am a teacher of handicapped children, and one of my sisters is a research scientist and the other sister is an insurance executive. We are very strong women!

Nope. My Dad was an Alcoholic, and also very mentally and verbally abusive. And I am fine and happy today. Not that is wasn't a battle for awhile, but I did overcome it.

Not true. I've known many people who have/had an alcoholic parent and are very happy with their life.

My Father was an alcoholic, and Left Mother with Five children to raise alone. She worked awfully hard on two jobs to do it, (He Changed his name-impossible to track) But mother kept us together, and got us raised Just Fine. We always felt it was a Blessing that He Deserted Us...... ) He died in a car crash after we were raised.....Un-beknown to us.

Of course they can be happy. You have to learn to move on from what your parent is, to be your own person. It may take some time and counselling to get there for some.
