Sunrise/sunset (from Fiddler on the Roof). There's that Coldplay song--I can't think of the name--but it gives different ages and it's really, really sad. The Leader of the Band, by Dan Fogelberg...it sort of deals with that. There seem to be a lot of country songs about this. There was a recent one about daddy's little girl, don't know who by. I'm being very vague here, sorry. I hear them in my head, but can't think of the names. And the previous poster's suggestion of Womak's song is excellent.

Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy) by John Lennon
"I can hardly wait
To watch you come of age
But I guess we'll both just have to be patient"
So sad that that day never came for John
