Ameda and Medela are the best brands. I wouldn't trust anything else. Ameda is comparable to Medela but is not sold at the big box stores so it's not as well known. I love my Purely Yours, and the Medela Pump In Style is comparable. You're right to choose a reputable brand. I have a friend who was injured from THE big new thing--the Avent. My SIL used it, but my lactation consultants told us that it has caused a lot of injuries in their practice. I guess it's an individual thing, but I would just use the nicer brands.

depends on what your needs are. I had to pump every 2 hrs to increase milk supply, and I used a medela double pump (I forget the specific style name, but it was the top of the line, about $300) If you need a pump on a regualr basis you may want to invest in a medela. Check e-bay for used ones, you can buy a new collection kit for $50-60.
If its a occasional use pump (if you are going out for the night and want a botttle for the sitter) then a cheaper model will do. Some women prefer an electric, some manual. There are many options, most of the time the more $ the better the pump. Good luck!!!

Medela Pump 'N Style double electric.
I exclusivly pumped for 13 months, anywhere from 4-8 times a day, everyday, and the pump still works! Not as good as it did when I first bought it...but I could still use it if I ever needed to.
Money well spent.

Medela double electric for sure. I rented one that worked great for my preemie. Ask a lactation consultant (health dept or hospital) if you can rent one instead of buying. I bought a good quality electric pump (about $100) for my second child but it did not work as well as the Medela. I had less milk for him than for my preemie. If you get one, be sure to read the directions, because if you've only used a cheap pump, the Medela will (uncomfortably) amaze you with its power.

Ive always used evenflo. Motorized not manual. Ive had 3 kids all breast fed. If you have a problem with filling up a bottle use your pump on one side while your baby is on the other. This totally works and increases your milk production.

Medela electric double pump. It is about $300 but worth the money if you plan to pump a lot. I ended up giving mine away to a mom who had hers stollen from her car but i know if i ever have another baby i will get another one.

The avent one is OK - but quite pricey.
After my avent one broke I got the AMEDA purely yours - double pump (electric) its not very dear (comparitively) and very effective. i'll never go back to single pumping - and I managed to solely express for my baby for 12 months! (he could'n;t manage the breastfeeding part)
