Simply: it will be worse. but since the vehicle is already a mercury villager, the addition of kayaks will not greatly increase the present drag. it probably won't be much worse mileage than you usually get.

I would GUESS .. an extra half gallon or so, unless the Kayak is fixed on the roof rack like a TV Antenna... (joke).
Make sure it is fixed with the manholes tightly shuttered, to avoid air filling up the kayaks and make it a parachute ...
Make the whole moving object (Mercury+ Kayak) aerodynamic. Have a nice trip. Miami is great these days !

Fraid so. There is a point of diminishing returns based in no small part upon several factors inclufing the transmission, the density of air, frictional loss to the axles, etc. But all this means is that to get that next 15 mph it is taking maybe 110% the amount of gas it would seem it should. Not an astronomical change - but one that adds up slowly over time.

Above are good. You may want to check what these rent for in Florida and save some money. Heck may be able to buy one with what you save in gas! Well, I not think it be that bad, but, may be cheaper to rent and not have to worry with the kayak being tied or stolen on the way.

Luckyily kayaks are very aerodynamic so it won't reduce your mpgs too much if you keep your speed down. But you wouldn't drive a Villager if you cared about mpg anyway would you?

My guess is not much. But any additional drag will affect gas milage whether you notice it or not.

MINIMAL AS RELATED TO WT.,BUT THE DRAG VIA AIR WILL HIT YOU. YOU MAY IMPROVE ON THIS BY BUYING/RENTING A ZIPPERED COVER TO REDUCE DRAG OR MAYBE ONE OF THOSE HARD AERODYNAMIC CASES.
