They founded a settlement under Leif Eriksson at L'Anse aux Meadows after sailing from Greenland, which had been settled 20 years earlier by Eric the Red. They never 'established' it in the sense of permanent civilization. The skraelings (Eskimo tribes) pushed them out within a generation.

Leif Erikson landed in Canada. They set up L'Anse aux Meadows but didn't stay there long.
