Voldemort was descended from the Peverell that created the Resurrection Stone and Harry Potter is descended from Ignotus Perevell, the guy who made the worlds most powerful invisibility cloak.
Since both guys are Peverells, does that mean Harry and Voldemort are distant cousins?

yes they are, in a interview with j.k. you can view on the leaky cauldron website shes says that. All wizarding families though are somehow related. Especially if they were pure bloods

"""""""""Renee: From reading about the original owners of the deathly hallows, the peverell brothers, i'm wondering if harry and voldermort are distantly related voldermorts grandfather ended up with the resurrection stone ring ?
J.K. Rowling: Yes, Harry and Voldemort are distantly related through the Peverells. Of course, nearly all wizarding families are related if you trace them back through the centuries. As was made clear in 'Deathly hallows', Peverell blood would run through many wizarding families.""""""""

BUT THAT ALSO MEANS... that harry could be connected to salazar slytherin, voldy was and if they are thru the peverell brothers, it could be. It all depends on who came first salazar or peverell

yes they are, but very distant indeed. JK Rowling discussed this in one of her live chats on mugglenet.

an excerpt from the live chat transcript:

J.K. Rowling: Yes, Harry and Voldemort are distantly related through the Peverells.

So distantly it's not even funny. From the sounds of things the Peverell brothers were dead and buried long before Hogwarts was founded. I say this cause it seems Cadmus was long dead by the time Slytherin was born. And Slytherin was apparently descended from Cadmus as he's the one that made the resurection stone.

This family connection is probably only stronger in Pureblood families. So therefore, yes, most ancient wizarding families are interrelated.

And I never thought how small the population of wizards were in Britain (and even around the world). All the British wizards and witches of schooling age go to Hogwarts! Well, all those who choose to go anyway, but still! So it does hit home a little more realistically that the magical world is one big family.

They are distantly related. Both Sirius (in book five) and Ron (in book two) said that all pure blood families were related to each other somewhere along the lines. They also said that they all had to marry muggles or they would have died out long time ago.

Sure, if you go back far enough you'll find you have plenty of cousins, especially in the wizarding world where there are few "pure" blood families left. Check out Sirious' family tree - he was related to quite a few people - even the Weasley's.

That part is very confusing to everyone and open to interpretation I think Harry dreamed about Kings Cross, it wasn't heaven. but his interpretation as the limbo between life and death (or he was at the gates of heaven) because thats what he considered Kings Cross to be, leaving one world and going to another. If he boarded the train, he would have gone to heaven or well... to the life after death(I just realized JKR never used the term heaven in the series...). but he chose to go back. They were probably confused and thought it was heaven because it was all clean and white and filled with mist/steam.

When i read the question i thought "What is this person THUNKING????" but then you explain that and.... wow i shudder thinking bout it. hey another inside the family murder! Bellatrix kills sirius, Voldy kills James (who he is related to) and Harry, and Harry kills Voldy. They are distantly related i think. But then again, all purebloods are related somehow, if you go far back anough in the family tree and Harry is Half-blood, James was pureblood. wow, now i'm thinking.

Although in a way everyone in the world is pretty much realted because like ur great great great great ( how ever many times) can be george washington for all you know so ya. but i still dont like how she did that. i think she should have made it like 3 best friends or something
