hey everyone, i need some advice. i am a senior wanting to apply for college early. i want to attend louisiana state university (lsu) next fall. i've looked at their admission requirements (minimum 3.0 and 22 on ACT.) and their required courses for admission, my gpa is a 3.555 (i average all the required grades together and divided by the number of core credits), but i have a 21 on the ACT. i want to apply early but i'm sort of scared i won't get accepted because of ACT score. The next test i could take is in oct. and that's too long for me. lsu's application deadline is april 15. someone please suggest what i should do with significant details, THANK YOU SOO MUCH!!!

Applying early to college usually does nothing to help you get accepted. Most colleges don't even look at the applications until after the deadline has passed. So if I were you, I would study like crazy for the October ACT and not apply until I knew that I met all of LSU's minimum admission requirements. Otherwise, you might jeopardize your chances at getting admitted to the college.

If the application deadline is April 15th, you really don't need to rush. I'd definitely suggest taking the ACT once more, and perhaps even take the SAT if they accept that test as well. These tests are a pain, I definitely know from experience. However, by retaking them, you have a much higher chance of getting a better score. And if you get a better score, that will show the college(s) you applied to that you have improved. Be sure to begin studying for the ACT/SAT about a month before the test day, and take practice tests as well.
Does LSU offer merit-based scholarships? If so, you really want to try to be the best candidate for those. Be sure that you have a variety of things (decent test scores, recommendations, good academic record, impressive essays, extra curriculars/volunteer work) that will show that you not only deserve to get into Louisiana State, but also deserve a scholarship. Take your time on the application process, because you won't get any second chances. Have your parents, counselor, and/or any experienced friends and family members help you out to make sure that everything is top notch. Impressing the admissions office is key, because getting accepted is only the first step. You also have to figure out how to pay for your education. Merit-based scholarships make that a lot easier for you and your family.
Also, consider applying to more than one university. You will always want a back up plan just in case things don't work out. Choose a safety school that you feel more confident about, and that will also most likely cost you less money. Definitely apply to this safety school after you have taken care of applying to LSU, though. Just make sure you know the application deadlines to all of the schools you are planning to apply to and simply submit the application on time. It's not very important to get the application in early, unless you are applying for early admission.
All in all, don't rush. Re-take the ACT, consider taking the SAT, and take your time through the application. Try your best to show Louisiana State that you are worthy applicant.

Good luck.

Go on and apply you have a very good GPA and you were just 1 point below what they consider their minimum. I would call up the LSU's admissions office and talk to someone about it. They could give you much better advice as to what you can do to get in. Heck if you have time tomorrow just find their number and give them a call. I would apply anyway, it can't hurt. I would think they would take you due to your high GPA. See your ACT score was lower but not by much at all. Your GPA is higher than their minimum. So there could be a good chance of you getting in.

Take the test again before you apply. LSU doesn't even have an early admissions program where they consider you separately from people who apply later. It's best to wait until you have an eligible score to apply with. Just have the rest of your aplication done, and do what you can do improve your ACT score (take practice tests, a prep class, etc.). Don't be impatient and send in your application now; you may be rejected outright because your score falls short of their minimum requirement. Take the test in October, send in your application by the beginning of November, and you're fine.

Colleges will receive a copy of your high school transcript when you apply so they will usually see the cumulative (as it is the cumulative that is on your transcript). Ask your school registrar for a copy of your transcript and see whether it's cumulative or not. You can also ask if the college that you plan on attending looks at a cumulative or a separate GPA. Also, you should strive for those high GPA since a high GPA applicant is more likely to be picked than a low GPA applicant. As for the admission essay, that plays a very important role whether you're applying to a large state university or a small liberal arts college as the essay is really the thing that separates you from the rest of the pack. Hope this helps.

I would apply. Colleges look at many things besides your grades and tests scores. I did terrible on the SAT's, but my grades were good and I got into school. But if you are really worried wait until october to be apply after you take the act's again. If the deadline is in April you will have plenty of time. Good luck!!!

Check the terms for early application. Often schools have restrictions on people applying early such as forcing them to come if they get accepted. Check if you really want to apply early.

After saying that, just apply anyway. It doesn't hurt to apply unless the app fee is really large, ACT/SAT Score isn't everything. If you aren't sure about the score, take it again. The deadline to send ACT/SAT scores to colleges are usually after the app date, so check that deadline and take as many as you want (but don't take toooo much).

April 15 seems kind of late. UC regular admission is at November, and my college's early app deadline was in october

ACT will not get you into a college, and it will not ruin your chances either. It is just one of many things considered. You have a high GPA, so even though you don't have the ACT score they want, you still have agood chance of getting in. How hard of classes did you take? The harder, the better. Were you in extracurriculars? It's good if you were. Can you get good recommendations from some teachers?
There are SO many factors that they look at, and if the rest of your application is strong, your ACT shouldn't matter that much. (And by the way, applying early does NOT help your chances of getting in, so you might want to just wait until you can retake teh ACT.)

Go for it. You said the deadline was April 15? That can't be right, not for the fall semester.

You can apply early and re-take the ACT, and submit the new scores. Then you're golden!
