We already have a little credit card debt and we are trying to stay debt free and my friends invited me to dinner and movie. I haven't seen them in years. Do you think it's ok to charge it?

if you do not have the $50-100 dollars for a night out in pocket money you are more than a little bit of debt vs your take home pay --- i vote you stay at home until you can do it with out thinking or any regrets when you blow the money!!!

The key to getting out of debt and staying out of debt is to not incur MORE debt. Not having the $50 or so to go out to a dinner and movie says lots for your financial situation.

You need to put together a plan (written budget) and stick to it. If you build up some savings, you won't find yourself in this situation later.

You only live once, but remember that you should only put on your credit card what you can afford to pay off at the end of the month.

Figure how long it will take you to save the "cash" and get together with them at that point.

There's nothing like a goal, a plan and the feeling of doing the right thing!

How about inviting them to dinner (or cocktails) at your home rather than going out.

I think that's fine if it's not to expensive. Just try not to make it a habit.
