I went to the South recently to visit and I do admit that I am a city girl but when I went there I thought I wasn't in the United States anymore but a 3rd world country. There's a lot of trees and the roads were so cracked that the car ride was rather bumby. There were also a lot of huge bugs which included in me being bitten many times. The people there talk very slow and seem very suspicous to tourists. I hated how they'd spit and talk in a strange type of country slang. I also noticed that majority of them were overweight and the average woman had up to 7 wild children. People always talk about the Southern Belle but I will tell you this there is no such thing! The girls are so ugly and they all look dirty. I saw no mall but there were small stores and their movie theatre looked like a rundown church. Why isn't the government helping these people? They are so poor, uneducated, and keep on having children!

We call that, "whadja do, git offin' the highway?"..lol...I have been shocked a few times around our beautiful America. Fact is, those folks are allowed to live that way because they are Americans. Most poor
folks you see, in any Country, are the ones the Tourist Traps, (ie Local Government) don't let you You step off the trail. Now look, you are going to have to do something about it, or feel that edge of discontent and fear for a lifetime. The US Has more unpaid Volunteers than any developed Country, and probably all 3rd world countries in the world.Especially If you count the troops....meanwhile. The people we are bombing dailey, had houses and homes. The people you saw are no different. They live in a country where their politicians care more about being elected and getting their picture on the Internet than they do about their own people. There are people in some parts of our country who have never gone to school or been to a Doctor. Check out the Timeline for "Broward County". Thats where Bush got elected President twice...
Spend some time in New York City, Las Vegas, or any other major Tourist area. The poverty is abomindable and well known to the Congress and Sentate members who represent them. The reason it is so very bad now is that no one who has the power to do it wants to be bothered and really Poor people don't generally vote.
What we need now more than anything is a solid Domestic President. Someone who wants to put our Great American Dream back in the forefront of our objectives. Any young Mother will tell you to keep your
things nice and help you learn how to do that. Our Leaders have been playing War for so long, they have forgotten what our forefathers stood for and our Mothers and Fathers have died for. We should be taking care of our own whether they fight for
"Freedom" overseas, or poverty here at home. Step off of your pedestal and do some volunteer work. Check out your own neighborhood, a few blocks should do it. It won't take you long before you distrust the Government so bad, you'll run. We'll vote &
maybe you will get into office and do something about it. It's true, I found no "Southern Hospitality" when I was there, but basically thats the World for ya. So busy reading the paper they don't even realise that when they throw one away, it could have been someones blanket, or fire for the families evening meal, or job listings...lol... that ones for anybody who has not "wandered off the trail". They think there are jobs in the paper. Maybe in the East India Gazette.
I know this sounds harsh, but before you get mad at me, take a look at yourself. I met a kid the other day who told me he will always vote a straight Republican ticket. Then he told me he was going to go into the military....I hope he does. I also hope he gets a chance to vote. Doubt it. By 2008, if he goes in now, he will be dodging bombs not bullets. But I am sure the government will be helping these people....oh, maybe after they fix those roads and get em educated...ya think any of our troops are from those areas?

Not sure what part of the south you where in, but the entire south isn't just bumpy roads and trailer parks. There are many well developed areas with booming economies and above average residential neighborhoods. Not everyone is a mullet wearing, uneducated, redneck either. As a matter of fact, Alabama has more colleges and universities than any other state in America (look it up). Yes, I'm from Alabama and there are those rural areas that resemble an old hick town, but there isn't anything wrong with a get away to a little country town every now and then. And what's wrong with trees?

Rude bigotry disguised as a question. How low and unkind of you.

I lived in Louisiana for a year and have family in South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama - and no one I have met, and no where I have traveled resembles you description. I am a northerner by birth - very far north.

I don't know where you're from, but I suspect that neither north nor south would claim you this evening.

My dear, I live in the South and I am inclined to think that you are greatly uneducated. I was visiting up North and found the people as bitter as the climate so I would refrain from passing any sort of judgment on anyone.

I think most of the money is going to the cities, where you always have a huge population on welfare, crime, drugs, aids victims, etc....
