My parent's always wants me to send them pics, programs, etc.
I hate attaching them to e-mails etc....it tends to be cumbersome.
Is FTP the best approach to just dump stuff to his PC? If so, how do I do that "safely".
Or is there a better alternative than FTP or e-mail attachment?

FTP requires installing an FTP server on one machine or the other, forwarding the correct ports to it on the router, and then telling them what your IP address is each time the need to access the server, as your address is dynamic. I would say attaching is the best bet. It only takes about 2 seconds to attach a group of files.

If you have a webspace, you can create a 'special' family folder that only you and your parents know the name of. You can FTP the stuff up to the folder, then your Dad can download the files directly from there using Internet Explorer. It is best in this scenario to zip the files first for faster file transfer speeds. (Most online providers give their customers free web space as part of their account privileges).
