2z-5(z+2)= -8-2z
2z-5z-10=-8-2z
2z-5z+2z= -8+10
-z = 2
z=-2

5t-2(5+4t)=3+t-8
5t-10-8t=-5+t
5t-8t-t=-5+10
-4t=5

Remember "PLEMDAS"
or
"Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally"
or
"Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtaction" is the order you solve in, so........
2z-5z+10=8-2z
-3z +10=8-2z
10= 8-2z+3z
10-8=-2z+3z
10-8=1z
2=1z
2=z
z=2

5t-2(5+4t)=3+t-8
5t-10-8t=3+t-8
-10-3+8=-5t+8t+t
-5=4t
-5/-4=t
5/4=t
1 1/4 =t
As for the second one, someone please correct me if I got this one wrong......I am surprised the answer is not a whole number which makes me think I may be wrong...Please advise this kid if I am giving him an incorrect answer. Thanks!

So the big trick with these is moving everything with the variable to one side and everything without to the other.
so with the first one we first expand everything out and get
2z-5z-10=-8-2z
then we simplify the left side: -3z-10=-8-2z
moving the -2z to the left side we get
-z-10=-8
then moving the -10 to the right
-z-10+10=-8+10 which gives us -z=2
multiply both sides by -1 we get z=-2
you can get the second one now.
