There is one bill in particular that my ex husband is supposed to be responsible, they keep coming after me. They are not even looking for him. If the marriage decree says that he is responsible why are they coming after me and not him. I'm in KY by the way and I don't know the laws behind this. It is also showing up on my credit report.

so even though he is supposed to pay for it, and he don't then it is my responsibility..
What is the point in seperating them then

I would get a hold of these credit companies and who ever is coming after you and get an address and send them a copy of the divorce decree also I would get a hold of the three major credit reporting agencies and do the same. I know this will all be a pain but it will probably be the only way, unless you have an attorney.

Good Luck!

Send them a copy of the decree with a letter stating you are no longer responsible for this bill and his address. I would also contact my divorce lawyer for a letter stating the same. Make sure you keep a copy for your credit report.

After my divorce, I aslo went through something like your going through. The bank tried to bill me for his mess up and I asked the lady at the bank just whose name was on the bill when all this occurred and she went on to tell me that it was under his name. I said well then he is an adult and if you think I'm going to pay for something he did when my name is not on it then your nutts! So there you have it. check and if your name is not on the bill then you are not him. You have a different Social Security number. Right> Well then it sounds like they are just trying to get you to pay the bill no matter what. Stand up for your rights. You might have been married to him but you are not responsible for the bills that are soley in his name. Now if this bill is in your name and his name then, you will need to go to small claims court and try to get a Judge to make some kind of arrangement on the joint bills from the past. So that you are not stuck holding the bag on all the bills. Good luck to you and God Bless you also!

your name must be listed either first on the bill or if listed second and he wont pay that means they go for you,and yes it affects your credit.contact your lawyer!! again if your name was anywhere on it yes.if he was responsible he should have had your name removed. please call your lawyer, esp. if its a large bill.rather pay the lawyer then for your exes mistakes.

pay it before you get screwed.
is it worth the legal fees to get him to pay it?
is it worth the credit blemish to fight it?
