Is it possible to just use power socket instead of a battery?

of course it can and if you do have a battery it is best to use power with the battery in so the battery will stay charged.

In my knowledge about computers, I would say no. Power has to be routed through the batter in some way. I know that when I have my computer plugged in, hibernating, and I take out the battery, the computer shuts down.

others detect that there is no battery installed and won't work.
