Funny, I did that 5 minutes ago when I saw a commercial for High School Musical 2. When I did it, I didn't want to believe it was time to replace the batteries I purchased 3 years ago.

I don't press harder I usually hit it against my head. I thought I was the only one who did this but I was going out with a guy and he did the same thing.

Because sometimes people are too lazy to get up and get new batteries so they see if it'll work a couple more times so they can change the batteries later. I'm sometimes one of those people...

You have to check and make sure your finger didn't just graze it, but didn't hit the button square on.
I actually do this every few weeks.
It only takes me about 4 or 5 presses to figure out that I DID actually press the button correctly.

Because we hate the fact that if the channel doesn't change we'll have to get our lazy A** up off the couch and change it ourselves.
