Of course, but if your dad doesn't know anything about the business then that wouldn't be a smart move and honestly you do not need a manager until you have a career to manage. I'm not saying that he doesn't, I just want you to make good decisions. You want someone who knows what they're doing, not someone who's learning as they go. A talent manager's job is to provide entertainment career guidance: helping a client to select classes, coaches or monologues; working with a performer to rehearse; exposing actors to casting directors; and helping to plan what direction a performer should be heading. There are many kids who are managed by a parent and sometimes it turns out ok and sometimes it ends up in court and with long and bitter family fueds. I know he's family, but this is a business. If he's going to be your manager, put everything in writing and make sure to read and understand everything. Do not be afraid to question things you do not like or understand. Also, make sure there are outs in the contract like periodic reviews and renegotiation points and make sure that you have final say in all decisions (except for decency issues which in my opinion should be your mother's decision). There's also a professional association for managers that you may want to check into.
good lucK!

Yes, it is actually really common for parents to be their child's manager. Look at Lindsay Lohan her mom is her manager. Your parents know whats best for you and understand where your trying to go with your career. But usually after being in the entertainment business for a long time kids will end up getting a professional manager.

Yes, a manager looks after your financial and pr interests.
A manager is not the same as an agent who's job it is to find you acting jobs.

Yes
Initially Jessica Simpson's father handled her (although he was a major player and learned from his handlers so he had unschooling experience) and Britney Spears mother handled her.
Eventually, however, like Madonna did, you have to place it in the hands of a pro like Fredie DeManne
Britney Spears, in my opinon, made a big mistake by sheding herself of her idot managers who ignorantly made it work
She should have taken control and made them employees and had them keep work ing for HER at a good salary
STupid as they were, they got the Job Done and she's just digging a hole now.
They were NOT Freddie DeManne by experience, but by luck and that's good enough to at least keep around as a consultant.

Sure, if he has a lot of connections in the theatrical industry. One needs connections and you and your dad must live in L.A., or NYC.
