Well being a surgeon has several perks. One of the reasons that I want to be a surgeon is because, you get to see immediate or near immediate results of your work. For example, if a person has a painful gall bladder or a skin cancer, you take it out and problem solved. Cardiac surgeons had a lot of job security since most of the people in our country end up getting heart disease when they're older and they end up needing coronary bypass surgeries and what not. However, of late lots of cardiac surgeries are beind done by cardiologists endovascularly (minimally invasive from within the blood vessels)

Surgery is also a very technical specialty. If you like to do things with your hands you should feel right at home. Me myself, I'm a gamer so the eye-hand coordination that I have from all those years of video games will be an asset next year when I start my residency.

Surgeons typically take home a pretty good salary as well. I think the average is about $200k or so depending on where you are. One of the chief residents I know that just graduated a few months ago signed a one year contract for $400k.

Well I hope this helps.

I know a great many cardiac surgeons, and for the most part, the only "perk" they talk about is seeing thier clients get well and go home. They certainly dont get paid enough for the work they have to put in.
