I just had a baby 2 1/2 weeks ago and i swear the doctor told me not to take a bath, go swimming. or have sex for 6 weeks, but i read it's ok to take a bath after 2 weeks?? I am nervous to take a bath just in case cause of what the doctor said but i couldn't get a hold of him today...Do you have to wait 6 weeks to take a bath after having a baby?

I don't recommend you take one, the reason the dr, said not to is because if that water emerges in your open womb sorry to put it to you like this but you are gonna be up **** creek, this happened to me before I was told to take showers and I disobeyed a week later and water went in and I felt like dying don't do take it from me it hurts like hell did this with my 1st

After I had my youngest girl I was told not to get baths, well I did any way at 4 weeks. I had no trouble with it. I cleaned the bath tub really good, I mean like eat off it good then get in. You do not want hot water!!! Make the water about as warm as you would put the baby in.

Maybe if you had a c-section, but I don't know about that. I know that when I was in the hospital still after I had my son I took a bath there- jacuzzi, it was great! The nurses encouraged it to help with soreness. I dont' know what the problem would be unless it has something to do with stitches/infection, but you didn't mention if you had stitches or not, so I'm not sure.

He might be concerned about you getting an infection, the same as if you were to have sex. Stick to showers until the 6 weeks is up.

I agree about taking the shower. The birth canal can be susceptible to infections or irritations from soap or perfumes as you sit in the tub. It's just a safeguard.

I would wait just to be safe because I'm sure your doctor had a reason for telling you this. Try to keep getting a hold of him.. and hopefully you'll find out soon enough. hope this helps
