How to hide your home address from stalkers?

Thankfully, I don't have a stalker! However, it's upsetting that anyone can pay a small fee to any of a number of online companies (under a google search for "find people," etc.) to get a list of your current and previous addresses.

Is there any way to keep one's address private from this sort of company? What if you have a stalker..it's terrifying to think that someone could just look up your address online. How can one keep one's home address and other personal information totally private and inaccessible?

A post office box instead of a street address. If someone is being stalked, the stalker already knows where he lives.
