I read an answer somewhere about using sugar water in a pie pan to kill horse flies but it did not say what ratio or how much to use.

I never heard of putting sugar water to make flies go away. Usually that just draws more pests to there.

Maybe the idea is that the flies will overeat on the fattening liquid and get too obese to fly anymore. If they just sat around on their fat rears they would be vulnerable to problems just like overweight humans. I wouldn't count on that. Maybe the recipe said put out sweetened water with poison in it.

I found this recipe for a home made horse and deer fly trap.

2 cups water
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup vinegar

But, from personal experience, I learned that a cup of sweet tea pre-made and purchased by the gallon at the grocery store, works just as well! The horse flies and deer flies are drawn like magnets and just drown. Of course, then you have to pour yourself a different drink...

Every fly that drowns is one less for breeding!

If you want to get decorative, I would think that you could probably also buy pre-made hummingbird food and accomplish the same thing with a couple of mason jars on the picnic table. I don't think the exact ratio of sugar to water really matters all that much. I also don't think a bunch of drowned bugs in a jar on the table is particularly aesthetically appealing, but what the heck.

Most of the time, but for some reason not all of the time, to repel houseflies, you can tie and hang one gallon clear plastic bags filled with water to a nearby tree or structure. Some people use several, we only used two in a 20 foot span. Like I said, it works most of the time.

Someone told me, but I did not try it: Several clear plastic or glass containers on the patio filled with colored water using different food colors in each container will repel bugs. I would guess mason jars would work, or clear plastic water bottles. I didn't try it because I figured the dogs would knock the containers over.

I use sugar water to attract hummingbirds. I notice that it also attracts ants, red finches and wasps. I have never heard of sugar water attracting and killing horseflies. This just does not sound like a good plan to kill horse flies.

Horseflies are beautiful tough to kill or get out of apartment. Horsefly chunk so do not try to kill with hand. Try a rolled up newspaper and hit it within the path of the door. If u do hit it it is going to give way and die. If u do not it is going to might fly out the door. And when you wanna be additional cautious take a anti-trojan horse spray and spray it on him.
