I doubt it will affect the baby in any way unless it is causing your wife stress. The baby is in its own little protected environment and isn't aware of mother's sleeping habits. The child should be fine... check with your doctor to make sure.

no it doesn't afected the baby. taking a nap through out the day or even just resting can be helpful. If she hasn't already tried it maybe trying to take a warm bath or shower before bed can help. I wouldn't take anything during pregnancy they may say it's ok now but that could actually effect your unborn baby. I'm 21 weeks pregnant right now and I am not yet experience that but I did with my first 2. It's part of pregnancy and it usaully because your uncomfortable.Try putting a pillow in between her legs and one behind her back. If she is sweating alot which is also normally during pregnant see due to increase hormone levels trying sleeping without a blanket or with a fan on.

I feel her pain. I am 30 weeks pregnant & am having a really hard time sleeping for any length of time.
Lack of sleep is more harmful to the mother than to the baby. If she wasn't pregnant she could take a sleep aid, but that will affect the baby adversely.
My OB recommended taking naps throughout the day so that it totals 6-8 hours in a 24 hour period which seems to work better than trying to sleep through the night. She also recommended taking a warm bath before bed & setting a bedtime relaxation routine to help me fall asleep quicker. I'm still not sleeping through the night, but I feel more well rested than I did before so it has helped. I hope it helps your wife too!
Good luck & congratulations!

It shouldn't affect your unborn child. I have that same problem. I'm lucky to get 4 hours at night. I recommend having her take Tylenol PM (if your doctor says its ok) and have her take a nap during the day. I find that sleeping during the day is sometimes more restful then at night. It seems odd but since I have been pregnant its the truth.

No it doesn't. You child is a seperate individual when it comes to things like that. Food only goes to the child through the unbilcal chord when the unborn is hungry so I would say that you unborn would sleep whenever he/she is sleepy and the future mother has no control over it. You should talk to your wife about why she thinks she isnt sleeping. Things that can prevemnt her from sleeping is stuff like anxiousness, anxiety, worrying, overworked, stressed etc. So try things to make her life a little bit more easier.

Well, it is the third trimester ....
Most important thing is to mention this during the doc's visit and see if there is anything that should be done about it
Then, do not worry too much as the emotional state of the mom does have certain influence on the unborn child (we have three kids, so we can attest to it)
Stay cheerful, have a balance of everything .... snacking on healthy food, a little exercise to relax muscles and do some things fun ....

Maybe the baby is just lazy. My daughter didn't move around a lot either and all test came out fine the doctor put it off as a lazy baby. I was also told to eat some chocolate when she didn't move to see if it would get her to move and it did. Something with the sugar just make them move. It might also be that he/she is a big baby and there's not enough room for them to move around. When my daughter was born she weighed 9lb. 2 1/2 oz. So she was big and I guess there wasn't enough room for her in there. Now my Son moved around a lot and he was only 7lb. 2 oz. so I'm thinking this is true. But i would try the chocolate and see if that works. Good Luck I'm sure everything is just fine.

I am 31 weeks pregnant, and was having the same problem. After calling my doctor they told me I could take Tylenol PM to rest at night. OF course not to be taken everynight, or even on regular basis, but might help her get a really good nights sleep and hold her over a bit :/ Definitely check with her doctor first to make sure they say its ok too.

Well, not really per-say. It's just a matter of possibly your wife's immune system getting a bit overwhelmed due to the lack of sleep. She may experience more headaches, and body aches too, as a result of less sleep. And, if she becomes more stressed out, that can affect the baby, but that's only in EXTREME cases.
I wouldn't worry too much. It's actually quite normal for us pregnant women not to be able to sleep that well! Just try to comfort her any way you can. You'll be amazed how much she'll perk up.
Good luck!
