Being naive does not mean someone is bad. It is not a good thing to be naive though because people can and will take advantage of you. Unworldly (naive) used to be considered a nice, ladylike thing to be. Now with all the evilness in the world we all need to be on our guard.

I think by learning from mistakes and asking TRUSTED people many people can grow from being naive to being a self-sufficient person who can take care of him / herself.

There is nothing wrong with being naive. What is wrong is staying that way. It seems to me that a lot of this generation is to naive. Especially the young girls. I have seen so many here on yahoo answers that just can't believe that guys will take advantage of them even if they have known them a long time. Don't be to naive. Always have guard up. That way no one will think your stupid. Being to naive leads to doing stupid things. Like being to trusting.

Naive:
1. having or showing unaffected simplicity of nature or absence of artificiality; unsophisticated; ingenuous.
2. having or showing a lack of experience, judgment, or information; credulous: She's so naive she believes everything she reads. He has a very naive attitude toward politics.

Synonyms - unwordly, simple-minded, stupid, ignorent, gullible, innocent

Depending on situation it can sometimes be good to be seen as naive but many people see it as a bad thing when someone has no idea about a subject or an issue that is staring them in the face. Naivity to me is always in the eyes of the beholder!

The stupidity part comes from the synonyms.

It can indicate that you are not "street smart." And if you're not, you'll have a more difficult time thru life. People may take advantage of you, some may make fun of you at your own expense, and some may really hurt you physically. Naive' people are easily coerced and could eventually cause you to end up disliking yourself and wondering why you have "bad luck."

Becuase being naive can get you into deep trouble or cause an unpleaseant situation you never wanted to deal with. Always think things through very carefully before you do them

Because it's easier to take advantage of naive people. People think your stupid if you let people take advantage of you. Plus if you don't know as many thing as the person next to you, you seem stupid not uninformed.

I think its kind of on par with being thought of as gullible. The association seems to stem from an assumption that any person who has those qualities is willing to accept anything their told without considering them first.
