It's a regional thing. The Red Sox market themselves very well throughout New England (for example, NESN, the ~~New England~~ Sports Network, airs the games). If the residents can watch the games, they'll likely root for that local team. Why do people in central Jersey like the Phillies when the Mets rule? Same idea. (ducks to avoid flaming Phillies fans..hehe)
Besides, almost any part of Vermont, even southwestern Vermont, is closer (distance-wise) to Boston than to New York. So, proximity is a factor.
It's the same idea as the "New England" Patriots, except the Red Sox don't need the "New England" name to get the message across.

People in Vermont like the red socks because the closest city to Vermont is Boston. A lot of people that live there travel or have relatives in Boston, so they favor the Boston Red Socks. On the other hand... Yankees fan over here.

Well...it might have something to do with the fact that the Red Sox are the closest team to them. It has nothing to do with bandwagon (speak for yourselves Yankee fans)...I have been going to Vermont since I was born (I am 26 now) and they have always liked the Red Sox there...not just since 2004. The Red Sox are the closest team and they are an awesome team with great fans...why wouldn't you like the Red Sox?

The Tigers. Edwin Jackson is having a great season, and has a mid- to greater effective-90s fastball. The purple Sox have been slumping earlier Jason Bay have been given harm. in addition they are an getting older group who won't be in a position to hit a solid fastball, in hassle-free terms look at the Yankees sequence. i think of of the Tigers will win the significant. i'm not too excited on the subject count of the White Sox getting Peavey. he's coming off a severe ankle harm, going to a sparkling league with a DH, and could desire to be rusty to commence with. there is no way Peavey is going to make a significant distinction indoors the significant race this year.

Speaking as a resident of Vermont, it's all about geography. Vermont is closer to Boston than it is to the Bronx. I was born in western Connecticut so I'm a Yankees fan but half my family live in eastern CT and they're Redsox fans.

Red sox nation has swept across most of new england. Maine NH Mass and RI are all huge sox fans. However, VT has some NY fans and it would appear that CT is split. It seems that it is more of a location thing than anything- but I like to argue that it is the quality of the people...
hehehe
GO SOX!
