What is the highest rated anime right now?

It's not bleach or Naruto...
They may be the most popular, but as far as highest rating goes? They aren't even close to the top. As far as recent shows go, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Death Note are the highest rated. Check any of the sites that have a vote for best anime ability and you'll see them usually on the top 10 highest rated.

In the case of Naruto and Bleach, there are huge audiences of people that hate and can't stand that show- for TMHS and DN, you can't really find any of that.

[EDIT] Since, I'm catching so much flack and being called an idiot, I'm going to have to defend myself. I CONCEEDED that Naruto followed by Bleach is the most POPULAR anime in the US (In Japan it is The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya as per the December 2006 edition of Newtype Magazine). HOWEVER, the asker wanted to know the best RATED. Best rated does not equal popularity.

Now I have had a lot of experience with anime (200 series viewed, mod at an anime forum, freqeunt many other forums and irc chatrooms), and it has been my experience that there are many, many people out there who think Naruto is just another typical shonen show. If we go back ten years, we will find that Dragonball Z was the most popular anime show in the U.S., but why is it almost never recomended on yahoo? It was just as popular as Naruto wasn't it? Doesn't that mean it got a high rating? No it doesn't. While you will be hard pressed to find an serious anime fan who hasn't seen a little bit of DBZ, you will almost never find it in their top 10.

I know many people who realize this fact, and believe that Naruto doesn't really offer very much inovation, (plus filler episdoes deduct from the rating). They have already seen similar shonen stuff, and thus don't get much enjoyment out of it. They label those diehard Naruto fans "Narutards." I'm sure you've heard of this before. These people give Naruto a lower RATING.

Haruhi and Death Note on the other hand have been immensely popular, mainly because of how unique and unconventional the stories are. The percentage of viewers who found these shows to be bad is much, much lower than that for Naruto.

Now I have pointed to two different websites showing the RATING of anime as voted by users to back up my claims. In both instances you find Death Note and Haruhi at the top of the list (I didn't list the others, because the question called for recent best rated anime), while Naruto is 237 and Bleach is 66 (looking at their best ratings. Naruto had two in the 500s).

If you are going to disagree with what I say, and call me an idiot, I'd like to see some proof showing Naruto as the best RATED, not most popular anime.
