Click Start button, than click run, type cmd in the Run box that opened up" A black screen will pop up (basically DOS) Type in Format and your Drive letter example--> [ Format C:/ ] Or just stick in your Windows CD and restart your computer (make sure your Bios is set to boot from CD-ROM drive and it will have an option to "partition a drive"

Well, normally you would use a bootable diskette with the FDISK program on it.

But keep in mind that you do not need to format the drive before attempting to install windows 2000.

The Windows 2000 installation procedure allows you to format the drive during the installation.

Put the win2k CD in your drive, make sure your BIOS is set to boot from the CD before your hdd. Your system should boot into the win2k installation and you can format from there.

You can boot from the 2000 cd and when it shows the existing partition delete it. Then create a new partition and load to that. One clean formatted disk.

some hard drive manufacturers provide some tools that work with their hard drives to include formatting.

this does not require the OS
