The top of the flag pole has two holes and a pulley. The rope needs to go up through one of the holes, across the pulley, and then down through the other hole.

Cool, but it's 30' up there.

Naturally, the flag pole can come down. It's a tapered aluminum sleeve that comes off a post easily. Trouble is, it's fairly heavy. How can I let it down without a crash?

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Get a telescoping aluminum pole, 62 feet of twine and a sharp thing object like a thick pencil. connect the end of the twine to a shaper object to act as a needle. Use the pole to get the sharp object with the twine up to the hole and pully, thread it through (might take a few tries) and let the object fall, threading the twine. Then at the other end of the twine, attach the rope and pull through.

:-)

The only solution is to remove the pole. Tie three concrete blocks to the base so it won't kick up. Get a couple friends and lift up and walk it down hand over hand.

I gotta go with the firemen option. they don't do anything 95% of the time, anyway...:)
this job is usually done by flag companies, like WGN flag in Chicago. they have contracts on municipal buildings to change out flags once a month.

borrow a 'fiskar' cutter from someone. rig it up and use it to put the rope in the pulley with a skinny fishing weight on the rope so it would feed down to you/

you could tie a ball to the end of the rope and throw it up there. Seenit done before. Might take a bunch of tries. But you'll get it.

Presumably there was an original rope.
You should have joined the new one to it with duct tape.
Then you could pull the new one in with the old one.
I'd check the manufacturers web-site, in case they have a trick.
You might talk nicely to you local fire brigade or power co.
They may utilize a service truck.
