I gave birth 11 days ago and now it smells like something crawled up inside me and died. Is this normal? I am keeping my stitches clean (though I think they are gone anyway) and I shower daily. But it's something INSIDE that smells. And I'm still bleeding....and the pads smell the same way. Should I go to the doctor?

It is NOT a fishy smell or any smell I have ever smelled before! I'm not joking when I say it smells like something died. Like rotting flesh

A coworkers daughter had the same problem and whoever did her stitches actually left gauze inside of her... After a few days it really smelt BAD... The smell would come back after an hour or two later than when she showered... Def go the the drs or ER and have them do an internal exam... BTW, it is normal for you to still be bleeding.. I bled lightly for like 3-4 weeks after I had my ds!!!!

Its an infection and you need to get to your doctor right away. That smell is the smell of something wrong, and thats exactly how doctors describe it. Like nothing you've ever smelled before, like something dead.

Go to the ER tomorrow, or the clinic, or call your OB and be seen right away.

Be sure you are using your squirt bottle EVERY time you use the bathroom.

Its the smell of an infection in your uterus or birth canal, and it HAS to be treated before you end up with damage.

It sounds like you have an infection. It might be your stitches. Go to the doctor and find out for sure. In the meantime keep that area really clean.

I had a really nasty smell too, I felt disgusting....I think it is just the blood, but just give your doctor a call in the morning. If you are not feeling any other symptoms, like extreme itching or unbearable pain it is probably fine!

It smells dead because it is. It's pretty normal and it will go away. Your body is clearing out 9 months of baby making tissues, blood, fluids, so on and so forth. It should clear within a week or two more but when in doubt see your doctor. If you have an fever, severe abdominal pain, or vomiting, call your doctor right away! Just keep showering and don't douche or anything along those lines because that can just upset the natural process! Just one more of those little things that didn't tell you about when you got pregnant! All the best!

Please trust your natural instincts and if you feel you need to see a doctor by all means do BUT, YES it happens, despite what people have or haven't heard.

You really should go to the Dr. It sounds like infection to me. I really do not think this is normal and you really don't want to mess around with it if something is going on. Good luck :o)

Did you tear during birth? It is possible there is a small tear into your bowels, which would leak an awful smell into the blood.

No that isn't normal, more than likely you have an infection and it could very well be in your uterus. You should go to the doctor.

It's most likely blood. Call your doctor tomorrow to make sure. They may want you to come in for an eval.
