I am auditioning for Oliver and Children of Eden next weekend.

Would anyone use the song "But you go on" from Annie Warbucks as an audition piece? Its a fun belty number... my only concern is that the best part is the end, so you would have to find a good place in the middle to start a 16 bar audition...

Good audition piece? Where would you start?

All you do is count 16 bars from the end and see if you can find a decent part right around there to start singing. Most people sing the end of the song because it's more showy. The begining is almost always too slow or too boring to sing as an audition piece.

If you have a voice teacher, ask him/her for help in marking your music. If you don't have one, you may want to consider getting a coach for a session or two to help you prepare. You also need to have your music clearly marked "START" and "END" so make a Xerox copy of the original that you can mark up.

best of luck!
