My computer's sound isn't working... when I try to turn up the volume it just makes thesteady whine, like most speakers make when they're turned up full blast but with not sound. I've tried checking to see if the computers on mute, turned up and down the speaker, on and off . . . I can't figure it out and gets to be really annoying! Please help!

If you have checked all of your volume settings, the problem may be a few other things. Such as, your sound chip
Are your speakers connected correctly?
Can your computer play sounds from a different source?
Have you installed signed drivers for your sound device?
If you have a sound device built into your motherboard, is the sound device turned on in the BIOS?
Does the Plug and Play BIOS need to be updated or configured?

Check your computers list of troubleshooting tips to see if any of those options help. Otherwise, you may need to have someone look at it if none of those options help.

Make sure that the "digital" box is the interface for the sound isn't checked. Sometimes a program will turn the 4.1 speaker setup into 2.1 and if your speakers are hooked up to the rear ports they would have worked fine when your speakers were set at 4.1 but if a program turned the speaker setting to 2.1 you wouldn't be getting any sound to them. Try seeing if your speakers are set at 2.1 and set them to 4.1 and see if that works. If it does you can use them like that or move them to the port for front speakers.
