It just all depends on where you are located and where you look. I have bought normals babies for $12 at a reptile show. I bought 2 blizzards (solid white) for $27.99 each at a petstore about 30 mins from my house, yet right down the street they were selling for $69.99. Your best bet is to go to a reptile show and get one from a breeder.
As for the person above, they breed several times a year. They only lay 2 eggs each time, but can lay multiple times.

It really depends on your area. One thing that I have noticed, as well, is that if the leopard geckos the pet store is selling happen to be a special kind of breed/morph (meaning they aren't just the average, every day leopard gecko and they have been specially bred to be a certain morph, breed, color... whatever) then the pet stores tend to try and sell them for more. I think it's crazy, but I've actually heard, and seen, of instances in which people have paid $1200 for a leopard gecko that, instead of having a lot of pretty colors, was solid white... no stripes, no polka dots, nothing. I don't know if this is your situation or not, but it's crazy...
If you would like, you can order one online for cheaper if you look in the right places. I would go here...
www.animalhousecrickets.com
They have juvenile leopard geckos, equipt with a video so you can see the leopard in action before you decide to purchase it, that run around $40 with shipping. I've ordered 2 online before, and they were perfectly healthy and happy. That is always a good suggestion if you don't want to pay the high price from the pet store!
Hope that helps!

Are the ones you're looking at juveniles? They always cost less. The ones hare are about $40, for a juvenile. It really depends on where the store is getting them from. If it is a breeder that raised the geckos in good conditions, they can sell them for more. In fact, the breeder can sell them for as much as thay want to, and the store will buy them if it is the only reputable breeder. Which of course means that YOU pay more! But cheaper leopard geckos don't nececarily come from bad living conditions, and more expensive ones don't always come from better living donditions. The store can also decide that they need more money and sell them for more.

If you are getting them from a private breeder they may charge more, especially if they are hybrids to make more vibrant colors.
I would go to a reptile expo near your area and see what prices they have on their geckos. They are usually more competitive on pricing and so are not as high. Plus, you will could have a lot more geckos to choose from.
Good luck
