I sprained my thumb a little while ago, and while the pain is almost completely gone, it feels "stiff" compared to my uninjured thumb. It's hard to explain, I think I have full or almost full ROM, but there just seems to be something restricting or slowing down my movement. Is this normal after a sprain? Is it just something that goes away with time?

It will be stiff for awhile but it might bother you in certain conditions, such as the cold. It depends on your age and how bad the sprain was. A lot of times arthiritis sets in after this type of an injury and it is just something you have to tolerate. If it gets to aching try using some heat on it.

when it feels stiff rub WD40 into the joint it will loosen it up. i have worked in a factory and on machines for 3-4 yrs. and have that same type of feeling in my thumb and wrist area and i do this at least once a week and it works. i know it sounds odd but try it it really does work.

Well you may have a stretched tendon or muscle in the area... try cold compressions and massaging the area...take anti inflammatory too.. Sometimes there's inflammation without swelling.. good luck to you

It may get better with time, but it may always be a bit stiff...

Have had many sprained ankles.
