I work on an adolescent residential psychiatric unit. We do group activities with the kids all the time, but they get bored doing the same stuff over and over again. Does anyone have any ideas for a group activity? It does not need to be therapy based...team building activities and art activities are always good. Serious responses only please! Thanks for your help.

How about putting on a meaningful comedy skit? We used to do a skit called "contamination ward" that was lots of fun.

Hi, I am a care worker of the communtiy, so speaking from experiance different things seem to work to assist the elderly. Dominos and draughts are usually a good activity to fill their time as a lot of the elderly would have played this during their spare time themselves. I once set up a activity for time lines, where we sorted through pictures and life events (major ones like Marriage, Childrens Births, Grandchildren etc) then added through extra personal special days, i.e retirement days or anything else that is special to them. Choir singing, or entertainment ran by the elderly themselves is a great way to get people out of themselves, i.e if someone used to play the piano/guitar or anything. You could also organise for a local school/brownies/scouts to come in and put on a little show for them? Hope this helps. Good Luck x

When I worked in the nursing home we use to make pudding painting. You get white butcher paper and cover the table. Make up a big batch of sugar free vanilla pudding. Use food coloring and give each person their own set of colors that each kid can eat some to.

a drum circle. you could use pots with wooden sticks, small drums, plastic buckets. someone starts out the rhythm and others join in. it is really an awesome experience, the music takes a life on of it's own. great activity for team building, self expression.
