Your water or your pipes are dirty. You might want to have a plumber check your water heater and your pipes for contaminants, especially if there has been a sewer leak or a septic line broken on your property. If it's not your pipes but sulfur or iron in your water, you should ask about installing a reverse osmosis water filtration unit. They are expensive, but clean water is worth the overall cost because clean water can contribute to better health, which means less medical bills, good health means less days off from work due to illness.
In the meantime, can you run baking soda in your machine without any dishes in it? Baking soda will help reduce the odor inside your machine. I've heard bleach can help, but baking soda can be run through the machine in the soap dish thing, and then another open box of baking soda when it is not in use will help reduce the odor even more (don't forget to take it out when you run the machine.)
But have the plumber check out your hot water heater, your pipes, and your dishwasher to make sure you don't have leaking pipes, bad pipes, or contaminants in your water.
Good luck.
